Ranjit Barot shares his thoughts on the impact of the information explosion and social media in the music industry. According to the renowned percussionist, drummer, and music composer, social media can be both empowering and isolating. While it provides exposure, he believes that some musicians relying solely on social media may lack the skills to perform effectively in real-world settings. On the other hand, many talented artists struggle with gaining recognition due to their limited engagement with social media.

Barot emphasizes the importance of collaboration in pushing one's musical abilities. Surrounding oneself with more talented individuals fosters growth and improvement. He stresses the value of humility, noting that it is essential to continually challenge oneself by being among peers who excel in their craft. Barot reflects on his experiences working alongside prominent musicians such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, and AR Rahman, expressing gratitude for being recognized among their ranks.

In Barot's view, true music should possess enduring quality and stand the test of time alongside the works of legendary artists like Sting, Prince, and Michael Jackson. He underscores the significance of creating music with substance that meets high standards.

Despite the joys of pursuing a career in music, Barot acknowledges the financial challenges that come with it. He highlights that while music is a highly consumed art form, it remains one of the least financially rewarding professions.Subscription services charge a monthly fee, with a small portion going to artists. The availability of AI today is seen as a useful tool, particularly for those seeking convenience. However, individuals with real skill and talent cannot be replaced by AI. While AI may eliminate those lacking talent, it cannot substitute for those with genuine talent and determination. It is crucial to have more artists producing high-quality music to revitalize the music industry.

There is hope for the music industry, despite the current challenges. In India, the music scene has been simplified to the extent that creating intelligent music has become a niche pursuit. The industry is predominantly influenced by a complacent group of individuals, lacking in benchmarks. Celebrity endorsements often overshadow true musical talent, perpetuating a cycle of mediocrity. Nevertheless, there are pockets of exceptional music, exemplified by artists such as AP Dhillon and Diljit Dosanjh. Encouraging more artists to produce quality music could lead to a transformative shift in the music landscape.

Growing up, my mother, Sitara Devi, a renowned classical kathak dancer, served as my primary inspiration. Witnessing her immense drive and dedication fueled my own ambition. I credit her for instilling in me a relentless pursuit of innovation, self-expression, and meaningful engagement with others.
